“RE&RE Case Study Team Riga” gains good results in the best European engineering competition

13.08.2010

In the Romanian city Cluj-Napoca the BEST (Board of European Students of Technology) engineering competition has completed  where Latvia was represented  and good results were gained by the student team of Riga Technical University Faculty of Building and Civil Engineering  “RE&RE Case Study Team Riga”. In the final evaluation "RE&RE Case Study Team" won the sixth place, but individually for the team the major success  was Vestas (wind generators) logistics task, were they won the third place.

The competition which lasted six days, required eight hours of hard work each day. The competition was taking place in two categories – construction and situation analysis. “RE&RE Case Study Team Riga” participated in the situation analysis category, where the teams had to solve the tasks (problems) in the best, most effective way and finally the problem solution had to be presented in front of jury. This year there were three tasks prepared by the BEST and one from each enterprise – TAV (Turkish construction enterprise, building airports), P&G (the biggest European producer of consumer goods) and Vestas (wind generator producer from Denmark).

As stated by one of the team members Mārtiņš Līsmanis “none of the tasks was easier or  more difficult than the other. For each task the given industry had to be researched, the different type of problem set, therefore none of the tasks and ideas used overlapped. In each situation we had to use our technical knowledge and innovative ideas required for each particular task.”

European BEST engineering competition (EBEC) is the event, gathering best new engineers from 30 European countries and 83 technical universities. This year EBEC will host 104 engineering students, who have passed preliminary contests in 13 regions. Finalists were chosen from more then 5000 participants, who participated in the first round.

One of the leading construction companies RE&RE has already supported RTU engineering competitions several times and this year the team for the further successful participation on European level was supported. RE&RE believes, that potential of development of Latvia are bright and intelligent students, therefore the future has to be formed already today by investing in the student initiatives.
